Taino CoLAB New Haven awarded CSP subgrant to support opening
NEW HAVEN, CT – New Haven’s newest public charter school, Taino CoLAB Charter High School New Haven, was awarded more than $1.4 million in federal grant funding through the Great Schools for Connecticut Project to support the school’s opening and expansion in the years to come.
Set to open to 9th grade students in New Haven in September 2027, Taino CoLAB New Haven will focus on critical thinking and preserving cultures through learning, while preparing students for the modern workforce. The school will expand by one grade level each following year, eventually planning to serve 400 high school students.
The Great Schools for Connecticut Project is a competitive grant process, operated by the Connecticut Charter Schools Association (CTCSA), that awards subgrants to new and expanding public charter schools in Connecticut. It utilizes federal Charter Schools Program (CSP) Grant funding awarded to CTCSA’s umbrella organization, the Northeast Charter Schools Network, in 2022.
Taino CoLAB New Haven was awarded the CSP subgrant in October 2025 thanks to its comprehensive plans to create a unique and innovative curriculum tailored to the needs of New Haven students. This includes a focus on college and career advising across all four grade levels and a cohort model that supports long-term social-emotional development.
“We’re honored to receive this CSP grant, which will allow us to bring the Taino CoLAB vision to life in New Haven.” said Founder/Executive Director, Dr. Adrian Manuel. “This investment supports our mission to design a school that reflects the voices, brilliance, and cultural legacy of our community – while preparing young people for a rapidly changing world.”
GSCT will continue to offer competitive grant opportunities to new and expanding charter schools in Connecticut through 2027, with the next cycle beginning in summer of 2026. For more information, please visit https://csp.ctcharters.org/home.
100% of Great Schools for Connecticut (GSCT) Charter School Project grants are made using federal Charter Schools Program (CSP) grant funds that were awarded to the Connecticut Charter Schools Association (CTCSA) by the U.S. Department of Education (CFDA #84.282A). GSCT is a competitive public charter school grant program funded under the Congressional Every Students Succeeds Act (ESSA, Public Law 114-95), which reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965.
